Difference between chip time and official time

The chip time starts when you run over the start mat and ends when you cross the finish line. The official time starts from the starting gun (no matter where you are) and ends when you cross the finish line. We use the official time for the top 3 ranking but your chip time is your true race time. It is normal that your official time is longer than your chip time.
